We’ve all seen photo recaps of dog-friendly activities and wondered how we missed it. While there are many incredible events for Chicago pups all year, here are some highlights worthy of being added to your calendar now.

I love so many things about Chicago, my dog, and the dog community. But if I had to pick a highlight of the year, it would be the magical day each year when dogs are allowed at the Chicago Botanic Gardens for the Spooky Pooch Parade. Held on Saturday, October 12th, it’s a morning like no other. The dogs, the costumes, the squirrels, the beautiful setting— it’s the only day of the year in which dogs are allowed at the Gardens, and it is so special.

Check out their gallery of photos from previous years, because if you want to place in the costume contest, you need to start planning today.

The Morton Arboretum offers two days annually for their Tails on the Trails event, May 4th and September 7th dogs are allowed on the grounds from 7 am until sunset. Games for your pup and a pet expo make this worth the drive.

Another great opportunity is “Dog Day” at Guaranteed Rate Field, where the Chicago White Sox play. Monday, April 29th and Tuesday, September 10th allow your dog the chance to enjoy baseball. These games sell out quickly.
